Overview
Form 4868 is used by individuals to request an automatic extension of up to 6 months to file their income tax return, such as Form 1040, 1040-NR, and similar forms. This extension applies only to the filing deadline; any taxes owed must still be paid by the original due date.
How to file Form 4868
You can use the following endpoints to complete the 4868 filing.
- Create - Used to create a new Form 4868 extension request.
- Update - Used to update an existing Form 4868 request with corrected information.
- Transmit - Used to transmit the Form 4868 request to the IRS.
PDF retrieval
- GetPdf - Used to get the link for the 4868 form PDF. To use this, you must have configured webhooks for it so that the endpoint will return the PDFs via Webhook.
- RequestPdfURL - Used to retrieve PDF URLs for single or multiple returns.
Status retrieval
You can retrieve the status of your 4868 return in two ways:
- Status - Use this endpoint to retrieve the status of the extension request.
- Webhooks - You can configure webhooks for the event type 'E-file Status Change' to receive Form 4868 status updates.
Other actions
- Get - Used to retrieve the details of a Form 4868 created in TaxBandits.
- Delete - Used to delete the Form 4868 you prepared in TaxBandits before transmitting.
