W-2 Corrections
If you notice any mistakes on your W-2 forms after submission, you must file corrections through Form W-2c to ensure that the SSA and state authorities receive accurate data. TaxBandits API facilitates a seamless correction process to help you ensure compliance with both federal and state agencies.
Key Points:
- Generally, corrections are required when you identify any mistakes/discrepancies in the information reported on the original W-2 form, such as incorrect employee details, amounts, or employer information.
- TaxBandits API supports filing corrections for W-2 forms, even if the original return was filed elsewhere or by paper.
- You can file a correction only if the SSA has accepted your original form.
- You can file a correction for an already corrected return. However, for this to be accepted, the SSA must have accepted the previously filed correction.
- If the original return shouldn’t have been filed and you want to cancel it, you can specify the correction type as ‘VOID’.
