Form 7004 – Application for Automatic Extension of Time To File Certain Business Income Tax, Information, and Other Returns
Form 7004 is used to request an automatic 6-month extension of time to file certain business income tax, information, and other returns. It’s important to note that this extension only applies to the filing deadline, and any associated tax dues must be paid by the original deadline.
Key points
- Automatic extension: This form grants an automatic extension for business tax returns — no explanation required.
- Filing Method: Form 7004 can be filed electronically. However, to request an extension for Forms 8612, 8613, 8725, 8831, 8876, 706-GS(D), and 708, the IRS requires Form 7004 to be submitted on paper. In these cases, TaxBandits will handle the paper filing and mail it to the IRS on your behalf.
- Deadline to File: The extension request must be submitted on or before the IRS filing deadline of the corresponding return.
