Overview

Alaska does not impose a state individual income tax, so employers generally do not have a state income-tax withholding return to file. However, employers subject to Alaska unemployment insurance must file a quarterly Contribution Report (Form TQ01) with the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD).

The TaxBandits Public API supports automating the Alaska Quarterly Contribution Report (TQ01) for unemployment insurance reporting.

Forms supported

FormTypeFiling frequencyDue date
Form TQ01UIQuarterlyLast day of the month following the quarter end

Form TQ01 is used by Alaska employers to report quarterly employment, wages, taxable wages, and unemployment insurance contributions. The report and wage schedule must be received by the last day of the month following the end of the calendar quarter.

The quarterly due dates are:

  • Q1 — March 31: April 30
  • Q2 — June 30: July 31
  • Q3 — September 30: October 31
  • Q4 — December 31: January 31

Key compliance notes

  • No state withholding return. Alaska has no individual state income tax, so there is no Alaska state income-tax withholding filing comparable to the withholding returns required in many other states.
  • Quarterly UI filing required. Every business with an open Alaska Employment Security Tax account must file a quarterly contribution report, even if no wages were paid during the quarter.
  • Wage reporting. Employers must report the number of workers, total reportable wages, excess wages, taxable wages, and applicable employer and employee contributions.
  • 2026 UI wage base. For 2026, unemployment insurance contributions apply to the first $54,200 of wages paid to each employee.
  • Employee contribution. The 2026 TQ01 identifies an employee contribution rate of 0.50%; the employer contribution rate depends on the employer's assigned rate.
  • Electronic filing. Quarterly reports must be filed online when, among other circumstances, the wage schedule contains 50 or more employees, taxable wages are $1 million or more in the current or preceding calendar year, or a payroll agent files on behalf of the employer.
  • New hires. Alaska employers must report newly hired and rehired employees to the Child Support Enforcement Division within 20 days of the date of hire or rehire.

API endpoints

For Alaska UI reporting, the state-specific methods — Create, Update, and Get — are available for Form TQ01. The utility methods — List, Delete, Transmit, RequestPdfUrls, and Status — are shared across State UI reporting.

Form TQ01 (Alaska UI)

  • Create — Create a new Alaska quarterly unemployment insurance contribution report.
  • Update — Update a TQ01 report that was created but not yet transmitted.
  • Get — Retrieve the details of a created TQ01 report.

Common endpoints: For the remaining methods — List, Status, Transmit, RequestPdfUrls, and Delete — refer to the common endpoints shared across UI reporting.

State New Hire Reporting

TaxBandits also supports Alaska New Hire Reporting through the common State New Hire Reporting API. Alaska requires newly hired and rehired employees to be reported within 20 days.

  • Create — Submit a new Alaska new-hire report.
  • Update — Update a new-hire report before transmission.
  • List — Retrieve submitted new-hire records.
  • Get — Retrieve a specific new-hire record.
  • Delete — Delete an eligible new-hire record.
  • Transmit — Transmit the report.
  • Status — Retrieve the filing status.

All TaxBandits API endpoints require an OAuth 2.0 access token. Call the Auth method and pass the token as a Bearer token in the request header.

Testing & notifications

Before filing, you can simulate the verification flow in the TaxBandits Sandbox environment without submitting real data to state agencies.

As an alternative to polling the Status endpoint, you can configure a webhook for the Status Payroll Filings Status Change event type to receive automated status updates.
